a little diy fun

I finally had a little me time this weekend to get some things done around the house and work on a project I have been waiting too long to start on!! We needed a new prop for photo shoots aka a new piece of furniture for the living room, when I ran across an ottoman that I LOVED on pinterest and couldn’t afford, I thought I would tackle making one on my own.

I found the base for the ottoman behind my dad’s barn, just waiting to be turned into a piece of Flint furnture!! I gathered all the other pieces I needed from local craft stores and fabric shops. Only 45.00 for supplies compared to my online option of 900.00. Once I had all the pieces to the puzzle, I started working..(with a lot of help from Adam) 🙂

After scrubbing all the dirt off of the old wash bucket. We started building the top for the ottoman. Adam cut the wood in a perfect circle and we covered it with 3 inches of foam and some batting to round the corners.

This next part was my favorite!! Who knew making fabric covered buttons could be so easy and FUN! All you have to do is cut out the pattern that comes on the back of the package and push it into the mold then snap on the back…a button is created!!

The next step was very time consuming and very frustrating. I watched a hundred you tube videos on how to tuft furniture and finally came up with my own version that worked for me. I drilled the holes in the wood where I wanted the buttons to go then threaded the button pulled it through with a LONG needle and tied and secured the other side of the wood with some random buttons that I found around the house.

After the tufting was completed. We finished upholstering the top of the ottoman. Around 100 staples later we had a finished product!! I am in love, I don’t think the pictures do it any justice!

It’s the perfect size for Moose!

Still trying to decide if I should add some upholstery tacks around the bottom of the fabric for an extra touch? Any opinions?

Until next time.
